"My overall responsibility is to influence the quality and safety of care delivered by the Calvary community nurses through their professional development. Every year I do a learning/needs analysis of the staff to see what is required and then build a program based on that. I also try to get the nurses to share their experiences and teach others.

The community nurses are all clinical nurse specialists, so they have very well honed clinical skills and knowledge, but there might be some advances in their field to learn or therapeutic communication, counselling, computer or leadership skills they want to develop.

I would like my colleagues to think that I provided opportunities for them to be able to shine in their roles. That I helped even in a small way for them to provide better care for their patients.”
