Healthy Ageing Program – Exercise classes
Strengthening for over 60s program
Our Strengthening for over 60s program provides safe, effective, and affordable strength and balance classes to help people 60 plus to maintain bone density, improve their functional strength, and remain independent for longer.
The program is evidence based and designed by our St George Physiotherapist and delivered by experienced exercise professionals across community venues in Bayside, Georges River & Sutherland LGAs.
The classes are suitable for most fitness levels and provides a supportive environment.
COST:
$100 per term, (9 weeks)
Term Dates:
- Term 2 commences week starting: 25th March 2024
- Term 3 commences week starting 27th May 2024
- Term 4 commences week starting 12th Aug 2024
- Term 5 commences week starting 21st Oct 2024
* It is possible to commence the program throughout the terms.

- Caringbah Seniors Citizens Hall - multiple classes running on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings.
- Carlton School of Arts - Wednesdays at 11.40am
- Carss Park Community Centre - Friday mornings at 8, 9 and 10am
- Engadine Community Health Centre - Tuesday morning at 9am
- Gunnamatta Park Pavilion Cronulla - Friday mornings at 8 and 9am
- Menai Indoor Sports Centre - Thursday mornings at 10 and 11am
- Miranda Community Hall - Thursday mornings at 8, 9 and 10am
- Mortdale/Oatley Baptist Church - multiple classes running on Monday and Tuesday mornings.
- Oatley RSL Club - Thursday mornings at 8.30, 9.30, 10.30 and 11.30am
- Old's Park Sports Club - Wednesdays at 10am
- Ramsgate Lifesaving Club - Monday at 11, 12 and 1pm, plus Wednesdays at 9.45am

Healthy Ageing Program
The Healthy Ageing Program (HAP) is a community wellness initiative of the Prince of Wales Hospital offering affordable group exercise programs to those who live within the Community Health Services catchment area.
HAP offers land exercise classes through its AIM program and water exercise classes through its WAVES program designed to target people aged 50 and over and younger with ongoing health issues.
The HAP team consists of certified fitness instructors who lead the AIM and WAVES classes alongside qualified staff who can also provide ongoing health coaching to support positive lifestyle changes and assist in the management of chronic disease.
Cost
$65 per term for 1 weekly class (approx. 9-11 weeks).
This nominal fixed fee secures your place in a class for the duration of the term and is not reflective of the number of individual classes attended.
Times & Locations
Classes are held Monday to Friday during school terms in various locations throughout the Eastern Suburbs including Randwick, Kingsford, Kensington, Maroubra, Malabar and Eastlakes.

The AIM program offers safe and enjoyable group exercise classes that accommodate a range of abilities and fitness levels. The classes are designed to enhance balance, strength, flexibility, and endurance in a fun, engaging and supportive environment.
The WAVES program offers warm water group exercise classes that are suitable for those with conditions that effect mobility and flexibility or who have difficulty exercising on land. These classes emphasise the same core fitness components as AIM - balance, strength, flexibility, and endurance – with the added buoyancy of the water environment offering a low impact and alternative way to improve your health.
To be eligible for HAP, you must live within the POWH Community Health Services catchment area. Please refer to the map below.

How we can help you
Our allied health team includes Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dieticians, Speech Pathologists and Social workers who can visit you at home. The amount of times that you are visited depends on your needs. This service is free.
Physiotherapists can give you exercises to do at home and give you advice about walking sticks or walking frames. They can also teach you about how to prevent having a fall.
Occupational Therapists can arrange for rails or home modifications to be completed at your house. They can also give you advice about equipment that will make it easier and safer for you at home such as wheelchairs, a chair for the shower or a frame for over the toilet.
Dieticians provide food and nutrition information and support. They can explain how you can modify your diet to help treat or manage a health condition such as diabetes or heart disease.
Speech Pathologists can help you with problems with communication or swallowing. Problems with communication may include speaking, using your voice and /or using and understanding language.
Social workers can offer you short term counselling and support for grief, carer stress, money or housing issues, and support for elder abuse or domestic violence.
